Global warming or the ‘global mean temperature’ (also previously known as ‘inadvertent climate modification’ – a term coined by the scientists) is rising by the day. In more elaborative terms, global warming refers to the increase in the mean or the average temperature of the earth. This is because the infra red radiations which enter the earth’s surface are not allowed to escape back due to the absorption by the gases which create a warm atmosphere around the earth – creating a ‘greenhouse effect’. All this is undoubtedly due to human activities of industrialization, pollution, deforestation etc. This has also led to uneven and unnatural changes in the climate of the earth’s surface.
Due to the Industrial and Technological Revolution all around the world, population explosion and with the increase of carbon dioxide, methane, chlorofluorocarbons etc - there have been a lot of changes in the climate around the world. The Greenhouse gases are – water vapor (causing 36 – 70% of the greenhouse effect); carbon dioxide causing 9-26% of the greenhouse effect; methane causing 4 – 9% and ozone causing 3 – 7% of the greenhouse effect.
